Our Lady of the Philippines Trappist Abbey: Home of the Contemplative Trappist Catholic Christian Monks of the Philippines

The Our Lady of the Philippines Trappist Abbey is a Trappist monastery run by Trappist-Cistercian monks in the island province of Guimaras in the Philippines. Trappist are a separate Order of Cistercians formed from the descendants of a reform movement of the Cistercian observance in the 17th century at the monastery of La Trappe in Normandy. At present, there are more than 30 monks living in the monastery.

I went here at 12:44 p.m. on August 31, 2013 with Chenie and Lindsay, my old office mates. This was during my first time in Guimaras, the 26th province on my list.

Our Lady of the Philippines Trappist Abbey maintains a farm where they cultivate rice and various fruits and vegetables for their own use and that of their many guests. They also have a large orchard of mango trees.  The produce are processed and then the products are sold in the gift shop located near the gate of the monastery.

The gift shop was the first place we visited when we went to the monastery.
