Keriketi Island: Your Next (Secret) Diving Destination in Samar

Kerikite Island is an island in the province of Samar situated in the eastern part of the Visayan Sea, located to the east of Almagro Island and Sayon Island, southwest of Camandag Island, and northwest of Santo Niño Island and Pilar Island. Administratively, it is one of the five islands that comprises the fifth class municipality of Almagro. The island is home to two hamlets: Barangay Kerikite and Barangay Magsaysay.

Kerikite is a tiny island, only about 1 kilometer long and 500 meters wide.

I saw this island at 9:42 a.m. on July 17, 2013 aboard a Tigerair Philippines flight bound for Tacloban City, Leyte.

Keriketi Island is a mountainous island,  on the northern and southern sides are green and lush fields where produces are grown. Fishing and agriculture are the major economic activities in the island. They celebrate their Fiesta every fourth week of April.

According to Malapascua Exotic Island Dive Resort , they are planning to make Keriketi Island the new dive destination in Samar.  Construction of  Keriketi Exotic Island Dive Resort started with a target opening in the beginning of 2014. This will be the first PADI dive center in the province.

How to go to Keriketi Island

There is no airport in Keriketi Island, it only be reached by boat. From the port of Calbayog City, it is a two (2) hours motorboat ride. From Malapascua, it is approximately three (3) hours away.
