Sangley Point, Laguna de Bay Eyed for New International Airport

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is considering Sangley Point in Cavite and Laguna de Bay as the possible site of a new international airport planned to be completed by 2027 that would replace or co-exist with the congested Manila International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City to meet expected volumes of passengers in 2040 that could reach to 106 million.

Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya said that a new airport with at least 2,000 hectares that is 20 minutes away from Manila is impossible but can possibly get an initial 1,000 hectares from the two said locations. Both locations entail massive reclamation to have the desired 2,000 hectares requirement.
