Diogo Island (also known as Dinem Island or Isla Diego or Rodonta) is an uninhabited volcanic island lying 3 1/2 miles (5.6 km) southeastward of Itbayat Island, part of the municipality of Itbayat in the province of Batanes, the northernmost province in the Philippines.
I saw Diogo Island at 5:02 p.m. on February 22, 2014 while trekking Vayang Rolling Hills. This was during my first time in Batanes, the 29th province on my list.
What can you see
Diogo is an extinct volcano rising out of the sea, with steep cliffs on every side. There are several small islets lying off the eastern side of the island.
Diogo Island is listed as an inactive volcanoby the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
How to get to Diogo Island
Reaching Diogo Island by water and air is practically impossible. Diogo is surrounded by dangerous currents and due to the terrain, airplanes can’t land there.
