Madi Bay: One of the Richest Fishing Grounds in Batanes

Madi Bay is a bay situated in between two barangays and municipalities, barangay Uvoy in Mahatao and barangay Imnajbu in Uyugan facing the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the richest fishing grounds in the province of Batanes, where mataws along with other Ivatans engage in coastal fishing.

I went here at 10:21 a.m. on February 23, 2014. This was during my first time in Batanes, the 29th province on my list.

What to see and do

Visitors are treated with a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean, the hills of Tukon, and the imposing Mount Iraya. Like most shores in Batanes, Madi Bay is not suitable for swimming as the current is too strong and the shore is too rocky.

How to get to Madi Bay

From Basco, ride a jeepney to Mahatao. From Mahatao, rent a tricycle to Diura Fishing Village. At the end of Diura Fishing Village is a Y junction, take the left arm and follow the cliff road leading down to the Fountain of Youth and the bay.
