The Iglesia San Jose de Placer or Church of San Jose is a Catholic church located within Iloilo City, in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. It is the home of the image of Señor Santo Niño de Cebú and is said to be the birthplace of the Dinagyang Festival.
I went here at 7:29 a.m. on August 30, 2013 with my old office mates, Chenie and Lindsay right after arriving at the Iloilo River Wharf near Muelle Loney Street. This was during my first time in Iloilo, the 25th province on my list.
Colored with gold, red, and white, the original structure was built in 1607 out of bricks and stones and the existing one was constructed in 1873 by the Agustinians who still run the church until today. Iglesia San Jose de Placer is one of the many churches in Iloilo built during the Spanish rule.
Aside from the image of Señor Santo Niño de Cebú, the church is also home to the image of Nuestra Señora del Rosario (Our Lady of the Holy Rosary).
