The Santo Niño Church, located at the corner of Real and Zamora Streets, houses the beloved and miraculous image of Santo Niño, the patron saint of Tacloban City. The church is considered the most important religious site in the province of Leyte.
I went here around 11am on July 17, 2013, right after alighting the airport jeepney. This was during my first time in Leyte, my 21st province.
Santo Niño Church is easy to spot because of its color and its tall belfry. After this, I visited Santo Niño Shrine, People’s Center and Library, and MacArthur Landing Memorial Park.
How to go to Santo Niño Church
Coming from Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport (TAC) Terminal’s arrival exit, make a left and walk straight to the southern area of the terminal. There you will find the jeepneys going to Downtown and tell the driver to let you off at Santo Santo Niño Church. If the driver tells you he’s not passing by the church, tell him to let you off to the nearest place and walk at the corner of Real and Zamora Streets.
