Christmas Lights in Slovenia
Slovenia probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you think of beautiful Christmas lights. However, this country is as yet unspoilt by tourism and has some of the most beautiful views in the world.
Before you think about traveling anywhere, decorating your own house often takes priority over the festive period. ChristmasLightsEtc.com has a great range of lights for indoor and outdoor use. Once you’ve made your own fairytale castle light up, why not take a break to see some other beautiful Christmas lights?
Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and Christmas lights and markets here start at the beginning of December. The main Christmas market is set up along the Ljubjanica River in the center of town. There are many other activities taking place; creative workshops, juggling, fire eating shows and musical performances in the Fairy Tale Town in Zvezda Park; street theater performances and temporary ice skating rinks.
The city is a compact one and walking around is easy, which means no hopping on and off public transport to reach your intended destination. The Christmas lights are spectacular whichever part of the city you choose to visit; don’t forget to pop in to some of the Churches and Chapels to see the beautiful nativity displays.
Lake Bled, about an hours’ drive from Ljubljana, is a magical place at any time of year but really comes into its own at Christmas. From the Christmas lights on the lake to the snow capped mountains, it has to be seen to be believed. The charming tale of the legend of the sunken ball is performed on the lake on 25th December and Christmas market stalls surround the edge of the lake inviting passersby to sample their delicious wares.
Don’t miss the castle open to the public which sits high above the lake and has magnificent views, or simply take an evening stroll along the shoreline to take in the festive atmosphere.
Although it’s not an obvious choice, Slovenia is certainly a must see – especially at Christmas.
