Why Cruises from Southampton Make for a Romantic Break
When you think of a romantic getaway for two, it’s easy for images of cosy country cottages and luxurious city hotels to pop into your head. While I’d certainly be impressed with being whisked to one of these for Valentine’s Day, I love the sound of a cruise from Southampton.
For a start, it certainly makes for a change from the usual romantic trip. While there’s nothing wrong with heading to the country or a glamorous city, I like the thought of stepping onboard a majestic ship and sailing to a variety of places. If your partner usually gets you a bunch of flowers or a box of chocolates, you could start to hint that a short cruise would definitely earn them brownie points!
There’s no need to worry about it costing a fortune either, especially if the cruise acts as your main holiday of the year. I know when I’ve gone to places like London and Paris I’ve spent a fortune on flights, hotels, eating out and paying to get into attractions. Even a long weekend in a cottage can add up, especially if your dining options are limited and you are forced to pay over the odds at a local pub or restaurant.
A week-long cruise can cost around the same or just a little bit more than a long city break, especially if you manage to snap up a fantastic deal. For your money, you get to travel to several countries in one trip, as well as take advantage of any features your ship might have, like a heated swimming pool.
Sailing the seas together away from the stresses and strains of daily life definitely sounds romantic to me, and I can easily picture myself relaxing with a cocktail in hand as we gaze out across the ocean together. Another highlight of a cruise, for me, would be access to a spa.
A couple’s massage is a lovely way to spend an hour or so, with a cruise from Southampton providing everything I’d expect from a luxury romantic break, but without the city price tag attached. After your treatment, you can make the short walk back to your cabin to get ready for the evening meal, or perhaps you would prefer to take a dip in the pool.
Going on a cruise for Valentine’s Day – or simply to celebrate a birthday, or just because – allows you to spend quality time together, as everything is in one place and organized for you. Traveling to an airport, waiting for a flight, making the journey and then getting to your accommodation at the other end can take a massive chunk out of your trip.
Instead, a cruise from Southampton means you can simply walk on to the ship and instantly relax, knowing that your dining options, evening entertainment and stop-offs are all sorted. Just because the ship sets sail from the UK does not mean you don’t get to visit interesting destinations.
Some of the top places that this type of holiday enables you to explore include Palma in Spain, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Le Havre in France, and Lisbon in Portugal. Many cruises can also be completed in seven days, so you won’t need to haggle with your boss to allow you a fortnight or longer off work!
There are lots of different cruise deals available from Southampton, with some of the best ones found here.
