Shangri-La Hotel Harbin, China is a stylish, contemporary international hotel in Harbin, a city famous for its charming European architecture and the popular Ice and Snow Festival. Read on below to know my experience.

Intrepid Wanderer check out hotels before you check in. Give unbiased reviews. Unretouched photographs. The good, the bad, and the ugly. So you know exactly what you’re booking into. Or out of. We can be brutal, but better the hotel suffer (or gain), than you.

When the company I worked for was invited by China Daily to go to Harbin in China last year, I was tagged to come along. I stayed in one of the 404-rooms of Shangri-La Hotel Harbin, a hotel that combines modern elegance with legendary Shangri-La service and offers one of the finest dining experience you could find in Harbin.

Location

Conveniently located 40 kilometers from the airport and 10 kilometers from the railway station, Shangri-La is situated on the southern bank of the picturesque Songhua River in Harbin City and adjacent to Stalin Park. It is the first and only international 5-star hotel in Harbin.

The Check In

There’s no line at the front desk when I got to the hotel past 7pm so my check-in was fairly quick and easy.

Executive Writing Desk

The Room

Although I got their cheapest Superior Room, it has indulgent bed with duvet, a good mattress, good linens, and alarm clock. For refreshment there’s coffee/tea making facilities and mini-bar. For bath and personal care, there’s ironing facilities. For productivity and security, there’s international direct-dial telephone, electronic safe, complimentary in-room wired and Wi-Fi Internet access, satellite TV, and a comfortable executive writing desk. And add to that is the magnificent view of Songhua river.

The Bar and Restaurant

I enjoyed the buffet breakfast that came with the room reservation. It’s a Shangri-La Hotel. You’re sure to have good buffet breakfast and dinner, Harbin style.

Construction of the bridge started in May 1983 and was completed on August 30, 1986. It is a 1565 meter scissors-shaped bridge, and is the the first large permanent highway bridge.

I didn’t really but according to their site, they offer 24-hour Room Service, Airport Transfer, Babysitting / Child Care, Business Centre, Car Rental Service, Complimentary Shoeshine Service, Conference Facilities, Facilities for the Physically Challenged, Foreign Exchange Counter, Gift Shop, Hair / Beauty Salon, Laundry & Valet Service, Non-smoking Rooms, Parking Facilities, Pastry Shop, Postal / Courier Service, Safe Deposit Box, and Taxi & Limousine Service.

The Staff

The front desk staff couldn’t have been lovelier. My questions were answered clearly with patience and politeness, and the check-in clerk made sure I can have a room at their non-smoking floor.

Every time I ran into a crew on my floor or some place inside the hotel, I was greeted with smiles and friendliness.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is small but spacious enough and there’s a phone inside, too. You’ll find the usual toiletries, hair dryer, shower, and bath tub.
